Abandoned in the woods of Aersleant at the height of Garlean occupation, Sterne was soon found by a well-to-do Roegadyn named Kestran Cwinsyngsyn. The babe came to be loved by Kestran as if the child were the Roegi's own.Though Midlander in appearance, Sterne's presumed Hyuran heritage would not buy an ounce privilege under Garlean rule. And, even those among Kestran's kin were offended by Sterne's presence. The Hyur was seen as:
"A line too far! The little bastard is an admittance of guilt!"
Yes, the Roegadyn populace regarded the Cwinsyng family and their ilk as collaborators—traitors pariah—for though the Cwinsyng Estate had prospered long before the Garleans arrived, under Kestran's lead their wealth and status continued to rise, while the rest of the native folk were impoverished.Still, Kestran kept the child on.To avoid escalating violence, Sterne would often remain within the bounds of Cwinsyng Manor. But, even Kestran's succor would not abate the myriad abuse Sterne faced—even within those walls.Kestran was, indeed, the only man who would show Sterne love and empathy (traits Sterne still carries). And so, when the man suddenly disappeared one night to nary alarm, Sterne decided to investigate on their own.Clues led Sterne to an undeniable revelation: Kestran slipped through the blockade and onto Eorzea!
"But why? And why without Me?"
Sterne's journey thus began...Sterne has yet to be reunited with their father and have only twice returned to Aersleant: Once during the Calamity, and once again to relieve the Cwinsyng Estate of their riches...Or, as Sterne would argue:
"This is my inheritance. If my father is gone, I'll keep all that he has built with love and kindness."

Aethereological Anomaly
There's something peculiar about their aether; a duality. For those with the skill of an apprentice Mage, the aberration could be nothing more than a passing curiosity. However, a Mage of long-lived may sense something wholly unnatural.
Familiar I: Mister
This blustering Chocobo is spirited with a mind of its own. Quick to pass judgement, Mister will wark at you with a surprising sentience; the sound's meaning made clear in its furrowed brow. Mister is deciding which eye to peck at, or maybe that bit of crumb in your beard. Don't flinch!
Heritage Found
For those from Aersleant, Sterne's accent or bearing may remind you of home. If Sterne admits their family name, or you espy the so-named family carafe on a shelf, the Cwinsyng name may ring an ugly sound in your memory. Feel free to make up your own rumors, such an outcast family would be gossiped.
Courier
M.R. Rhotano, the realms most famous infamously unknown merchant and entrepreneur, uses Sterne to track the untraceable and impeach the unimpeachable. When not out discovering new and protected oddities for his patron, Sterne can be found in the Rhotano Musem cataloging the prizes they've fetched.
Familiar II: Sentient Journal
An unassuming book is always in Sterne's possession—until it decides otherwise! This magicked tome may stay lifeless in Sterne's pack or, on a whim, stand up, march towards you on parchment feet, and present the quill in its spine as a mimed invitation to write on its magicked pages.
"Something on my face?"
The scaring of their face does not often go without notice. If not for the eye-patch, you might be (un)lucky enough to see the spontaneous emulsion of vitreous fluid from that battered eye-socket.
rewrites have begun May 2025
There were short stories here, but now they're gone.
Many of the things written relate in chorus to the world of Final Fantasy X|V for the purpose of context, setting and narrative to Sterne's story.
These details are subject to revision upon the release of contradicting lore within the game and/or its official lore books.
